iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 both have fantastic display. iPhone 6 Plus packs a 5.5″ FullHD screen which results to pixel density of 401PPI. Samsung Galaxy Note 4, in the other hand, comes with a 5.7″ QHD Display. The screen of the Galaxy Note 4 is super sharp with pixel density of 537ppi.
DisplayMate, a company which tests mobile/consumer electronics display, awarded iPhone 6 Plus with “Best mobile LCD Display” title. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 which uses Amoled display was awarded with “Best Mobile Display”. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is the better performer of the two. The display is sharp and has wide viewing angles. As it uses Amoled display, contrast is high and images look vivid. But, that doesn’t mean that iPhone 6 Plus’s display is any less. It has better display than any phone you have ever used!
Comparing Apple’s custom made A8 processor with the Snapdragon 805 powering the Note 4 isn’t easy. While on paper, Samsung has clear advantage with its 2.7GHz quad-core processor, the reality is something else. Apple’s Dual Core 1.4GHz A8 chipset, thanks to proper iOS optimization performs better in real world application test. While the CPU of the Snapdragon 805 is better than that of A8, the A8 has better performing GPU.
iPhone 6 Plus performs better than Samsung Galaxy Note 4 overall. There are two things that holds the Note 4 form performing like a beast: QHD Display and TouchWiz. Note 4 having to push more pixels than the iPhone 6 Plus makes it perform less capably. The user-interface and the amount of bloats Samsung puts in its flagship phone also slows down things. While iPhone 6 is smooth asbutter, we can’t say the same with the Galaxy Note 4. Even after so many years, opening Gallery app takes a couple of second in the Note 4 which is honestly intolerable.
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 wins hands down when it comes to multi-tasking. The Note 4 has thrice the amount of RAM its counterpart has to offer. With 3 GB of RAM on-board, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 can hold more apps in its memory than any other phone.
iOS, the operating system iPhone uses, multi-tasks in a different way though. Instead of running apps in the background, it freezes them. This way, iPhone saves its precious memory. Only select apps can run in the background in iPhone 6 Plus. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with its ample 3 GB RAM can run two app in the foreground and other in the background.
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 comes with 16MP Iso-Cell Camera while iPhone 6 Plus has “only” 8MP sensor. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has twice the resolution than its competitor. Does that mean Samsung Galaxy Note 4 produces twice as better photos? Not at all! The Mega Pixel count by no mean determines the quality of the image. Yes, higher pixel count has its own advantage but it is not everything. With camera with higher Mega Pixel, you can zoom more and crop more without losing much detail.
Apple has been pushing 8MP sensor in its iPhone since 2011 starting from iPhone 4s. But with each iteration, the image quality the camera produced only improved. This time around, they have changed every detail of the camera to make it produce better images. iPhone 6 Plus takes excellent photos and videos. Low light performance is just as good. The only con of iPhone 6 Plus has to be the low MP count. iPhone 6 Plus even packs Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) which is missing in its sibling, the iPhone 6.
Samsung’s flagship phones always packed best of camera. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is no different. In fact, it has the best camera in the market today second only to Nokia Lumia 1020. Not only does it have camera with higher pixel count, it also has OIS built-in. The performance of the camera is really good. Shutter Lag is non-existent even in low-light. Software features Samsung packs in their phablet beast has no competition either. You will find every setting you need and more!
Between the two phones, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is overall better performer when it comes to camera department. Both iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 produce excellent images and videos but Note 4’s higher MP count gives it a slight edge here.
Operating System (OS) and User Interface (UI)
iPhone 6 Plus runs iOS 8 while the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 runs Android 4.4.4 with TouchWiz UI overlay. Comparing iOS to Android is like comparing Apples to Oranges. It is you to decide which one of the two is better. One thing you have to know is “Android” that Samsung uses is very different from stock Android found in Nexus devices. Samsung layers pure Android with their own software called TouchWiz which you will either love or hate.
iOS and Android is two difference operating system for two different kind of people. If you want a hassle free smooth experience, iPhone 6 Plus is the way to go. It’s not that Android is not smooth. It is but thanks to TouchWiz, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 isn’t as smooth. You will find iPhone 6 Plus just a little bit more snappy than Note 4 if you are using them side-by-side. If you don’t care about milliseconds they perform quite similarly.
TouchWiz is not all that bad, however. It has many great features too. It has excellent camera modes and options. Its notification panel is the best we have seen. The S-Health app is just as good. Multi-Window Multi-Tasking which lets you to use two apps at once is another great feature TouchWiz has to offer. Above all, it offers S-Note application which makes use of Samsung’s S-Pen that lets you take notes in a fly. Air View, Air Gesture, Smart Stay and Smart Scroll are just few fancy features that are included in Samsung Galaxy Note 4. When it comes to features, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has no match.
We like both the OS. As we said earlier, it is you to decide which of the two you like better. They are both good in their own way. What we can say with confidence is whatever phone you go with, you won’t be disappointed. Both the OS has big eco-system of apps and games. They have enough apps to meet your requirements.
Call Quality and Speaker
Both Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and iPhone 6 performed well in call quality test we performed. The earpiece on both the phones is loud and clear. Microphone performance is just as good. Noise cancellation also works as intended.
The speaker used in the iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is good but not out extraordinary. We have heard better sounding speakers before. Both the phones pack mono speaker. iPhone 6 Plus speaker is positioned at the bottom. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has its speaker at the back. The audio Quality is definitely better in iPhone 6 Plus. iPhone 6 Plus produced louder output and cleaner one too.
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has bigger 3220mAh battery but also needs more juice to power the bigger and higher resolution screen. iPhone 6 Plus 2915mAh battery is not small by any means and will easily last a day. In fact, both the phones can last a full day in single charge under heavy usage. If you are a light/moderate smart phone user, the phone will last at least for two days before you need to charge again.
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has a removable battery while iPhone 6 Plus doesn’t. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 also has better standby time than the 6 Plus. Screen-on time is better in the iPhone 6 Plus.
iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 are two great phones. They are the best phones money can buy today. If you like phablet sized phones, these two are the best option for you. Both the phones are equally powerful and feature great displays. Choosing one of the two isn’t easy. If you like Apple eco-system, go with the iPhone 6 Plus. If you are an Android user who loves customization options and crazy features, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is the way to go.
Both Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and iPhone 6 Plus cost $299 on-contract for 16GB base model. Unlocked price is different in different part of the world.
